How do I demonstrate payroll?
The QuickBooks Student Learning Guide, Lesson number 12 is for payroll. It instructs the user to restore the sample company data file in QuickBooks. The sample data file includes payroll tax tables to run payroll and print checks, but will not allow the user to auto generate state and federal forms. That is by paid subscription only.

It is available for the instructor on Instructor's Resource Center at www.accountant.intuit.com/iep or from the QuickBooks in the Classroom CD which comes with your site license. If a student is using Intuit's Student Learning Guide, a CD with the file is located at the back of the book.

What is the difference between an "Academic Version" and a "Non-Academic Version" of QuickBooks?

  • The purpose of academic software is for students studying accounting who are enrolled in public or private universities or colleges. While the copy they are using appears to be a full working version of QuickBooks Pro, you should consider purchasing a valid non-academic license if they plan to make ongoing use of the software for their business.
  • The Academic Version has an installation limit of three. This includes reinstalls. A non-academic version offers more flexibility for reinstallations.
  • The Academic Version does not come with 30 days of free tech support.
